HAPPY CANADA DAY 2011
Canada Day is a celebration of our country, our heritage and our history. In Parksville Canada Day has become that special event kicking off the summer and in years past it has been a significant celebration with boasts of being the biggest celebration on the Island.
This year The Rotary Club of Parksville has kicked it up a notch and it will surely be the biggest and best celebration on the Island.
Plans have been made, schedules have been set; the day will start with the Shriner’s pancake breakfast in the Community Park, and what sort of celebration would it be without a parade– EVERYONE LOVES A PARADE - pick a spot early as the Island Highway will be lined with spectators
from Shelly Rd to Craig St. Watch for the RE/MAX First Realty float and say hi - we'll be there.
Following the parade we will move to the Community Park where families will be entertained by a great line-up of musical talent; enjoy all the games and activities in the park and cruise through the array of vendors and displays. There will be kite flyers, go-carts, bouncy castles, a miniature train, a mechanical bull and so much more. Don’t forget to check out the RV and Boat display. After you have eaten all the hot dogs, cotton candy and ice-cream you can eat it will be time to settle in and listen to the live performances of our special guests featuring the great Canadian tribute artists “The TimeBenders” before OOHING & AHHING at the fabulous display of the THRIFTY FOODS FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR.
One ingredient left in the recipe for success is you - see you all at the park.
Make your plans early. Highway 19A will be closed from 9:00am to noon from Martindale to the Alberni Hwy to accommodate the Parade and parking spaces are not available in the Park this year; so park in one of the lots downtown and make your way into the Park. The Parksville Downtown Free Bus will be running a shuttle service through the downtown and into the Park to help people parking in the downtown get down to all the great activity.
A full day of family entertainment is to be enjoyed in the most beautiful park in Canada. SEE YOU THERE!
