Thoughts From Richard Robbins (RRI)
STOP WORRYING AND START DOING Blank Slates and Fresh Starts
by Richard RobbinsI was in an airport early January 1st reading something by Sheila Schuller Coleman that was titled,"New Beginnings." Sheila went on to say:
"A blank slate. A new semester. A fresh start. What do we all have in common? A chance to start over! What a powerful opportunity it is when you are able to put aside the old false starts...dead ends... the disappointments. The old has passed the new day is here! You don't have to be shackled by the past when you have a beautiful future before you. So grab hold of this powerful opportunity! Don't let it slip away! Take advantage of the new beginning."
I thought to myself... very important words especially in these times. We have been bombarded by so much negative news these past few months that many of us have entered the new year with deep concern, fear and uncertainty.
I don't know about you but I have had enough! I have had enough of the news, the negativity and the drama. It's time to step it up and get on with things. We are in January of 2009 with a new leader of the free world and a beautiful year filled with hope, possibility and opportunity ahead.
We cannot predict what the future holds. No one can. However I do know that spending time worrying about what we cannot control or what might or might not happen is a complete waste of our precious time and energy. It also leads to some form of suffering; not just mental suffering but physical suffering as well. It has been scientifically proven that stress is a leading factor of disease. Worrying about the future, being fearful of the future and thinking negatively will not do us, our family, our friends or our customers any good.
I want to encourage you to stop worrying about tomorrow and start focusing on today.
Stop worrying about what you can't control and Start doing what you need to do today to move yourself towards your goals. Stop worrying about the big things and start acting on the little things that will truly make a difference.
We can't predict with absolute certainty how this year will turn out but we can make the best of today. In 2009, we can CHOOSE ... to spend more time with our family
... to exercise more and eat less
... to read fewer newspapers and more good books
... to wake up earlier and go to bed earlier
(There is no discipline in getting up early; the discipline is in going to bed earlier)
... to watch less television and spend more time face-to-face with those we love
... to spend more time doing the things that bring us joy and less time on the things that don't
... to focus on giving rather than receiving
... to listen more and talk less
... to pay our self first instead of last and
....to enjoy the simpler things that mean the most.
I would suggest that if we focus on these things, then 2009 will be the best year we have ever had.
Until next time, Ignite Life!
